| SBANE - 2004 New England Innovation Award |
Gem Plumbing & Heating has won the prestigious Innovation Award presented by the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE).
Gem was one of only five companies, and the only winner from RI, to win the 2004 SBANE New England Innovation Award, recognizing companies in the words of SBANE, “that are not merely successful, but whose success is due to innovation.”
Established in 1986, more than 100 companies have been honored with the SBANE Innovation Award, in recognition of an entrepreneurial drive that prizes vision and innovation as critical tools for growth and success.
Gem was also recently named 2004 Family-Owned Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in its annual Salute to Small Business – and significantly, for both Rhode Island and New England. That award recognized the four Gemma brothers who operate the business – Anthony, Leonard, Larry, and Edward.
Earlier this year Gem won the “Best Company to Work For” Award for the New England region, given by the trade publication Air-Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News, a leading national weekly publication serving the plumbing and mechanical trades.
“Innovation has certainly been a huge factor in our recent growth,” says Anthony Gemma, President and COO of Gem Plumbing & Heating Services, the residential service unit of Gem. “Today’s Gem would not be the company that it is if we didn’t constantly focus on innovation to help us be the best.
