| St. Mary's Partner in Philanthropy |
Gem Plumbing of Providence was recently recognized by St. Mary’s Home for Children as a Partner in Philanthropy. The award, presented in conjunction with National Philanthropy Day 2000, recognizes individuals and organizations that exhibit commitment to the non-profit community through financial, leadership, or volunteer support.
Recognized were owners Lenny, Larry and Eddie Gemma of Lincoln and Anthony Gemma of Cumberland. Also recognized was employee Patrick McCarthy of Providence.
The Gemma brothers and McCarthy were singled out because of their longtime commitment to the agency with their time, talents and financial support.
Since its inception in 1877 as an orphanage, St. Mary’s has been dedicated to serving the needs of children and families of Rhode Island. The agency has evolved into the state’s only accredited coeducational residential treatment center for victims of child abuse and neglect.
In addition to the residential center, the agency operates a fully accredited special education school as well as a 45-day Residential Diagnostic Assessment Program. A newly developed program, Treatment Foster Care, offers specialized foster care for St. Mary’s children.
