Gem Plumbing has been selected as the New England regional winner of the “Best Contractor to Work For” contest sponsored byAir Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration News, a leading weekly trade publication serving the HVAC (heating-ventilation and air conditioning) contractor trades.
As one of seven nationwide winners selected by editors of the publication, Gem Plumbing was the subject of an article in the January 26th edition of The News and received a plaque commemorating their selection, which was presented at the recent ARI (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute) Expo held in Anaheim, California, the industry’s biggest annual trade show and conference.
The News selected Gem Plumbing as New England’s best contractor to work for, in the words of the publication, “because the Gemmas (owners of the privately held and operated company) have taken a cutting edge approach to HVAC and plumbing contracting and are using it to hire the best technicians for their team.”
Also cited as reasons Gem was best in New England were the company’s open door policy, extent of training opportunities made available, and the constant pursuit of greater efficiency. But “the biggest reason this company was selected,” said The News, “is that the owners consciously empower their employees to do the best they can for the customer.”
In addition to health and dental coverage, Gem Plumbing offers its employees two 401K retirement programs with a 25% match up to 3% of pay, company paid life insurance, incentive and reward programs, bonus pay for service technicians and a flexible spending account for daycare.
Gem Plumbing currently employs some 310 people and the company has been recognized by Providence Business News as one of the fastest growing companies in Rhode Island for the past five years.
